Description:
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto intends to expand its analytical instrumentation capabilities with the acquisition of two High-Resolution Mass Spectrometers. The instruments will be hosted in the Lash Miller Building. Both instruments will be used for proteomics and small-molecule analysis. The spectrometers should possess high mass accuracy in order to achieve the highest possible confidence in peptide and small molecule identification.
Our research objectives require mass spectrometers to analyze complex protein and small-molecule samples for identification, characterization and quantification of peptides and small molecules. The two high-resolution mass spectrometers should be coupled to (1) a nano-LC and (2) a regular HPLC, both to be used for small-molecule and proteome analysis. Complex proteome samples will be extracted from cell culture systems and primary cell and tissue samples. Small molecule samples will be extracted from environmental matrices (e.g., drinking water), cell culture systems, and tissue samples. The spectrometer should have the capacity to comprehensively identify protein and small molecules in highly complex samples. Software and hardware for proteome analysis is required to quantify peptide and protein levels in extremely mass-limited samples.
