23129 - Perceptions of Tourism as a Place of Employment

For many years, a major challenge in the tourism sector was a shortage of labour. More recently, the tourism sector has been severely disrupted by Covid-19. Between February and April, employment in tourism decreased by 881,700 jobs. Since April, employment has climbed again but in July, the height of the summer season, there were still 557,200 fewer people employed in tourism than there were in July 2019. This loss of employment and Covid-19 in general has put a significant spotlight on the tourism sector. It is important that we understand how this has changed Canadians perceptions of the tourism sector as a place of work, both during the pandemic and in the recovery period that follows. The purpose of his RFP is to hire a company that will collect data that answers those questions through a general population survey of Canadians.
