As part of a Government of Ontario-funded initiative, Tourism HR Canada is seeking to engage the expert services of an online learning developer to adapt, modify, and update existing online resources to repurpose for a specific learner audience related to the funding allocated.
The funding for this initiative is very short (March 31, 2021 – March 31, 2022), which requires the development of these training assets (in English) to be completed no later than August 31, 2021, as the intake of learners is scheduled to begin in September and we require the assets to be hosted on our learning management system (LMS) to accommodate this. These new online assets are not expected to be developed from scratch, but to draw heavily on existing content and IP already held by Tourism HR Canada.
The focus of this project is to pilot a competency-based training model focused on building the core skills hospitality operations will be seeking as Ontario’s tourism sector begins to emerge from the impacts of COVID. This pilot initiative targets racialized groups within Eastern Ontario who have been disproportionately impacted by employment challenges as a consequence of the pandemic and will provide them with the opportunity to develop the job-specific skills employers are looking for.
Our proposed project (Empowering Racialized Groups to Succeed in the Tourism Sector through Innovative Learning) will leverage new and existing partnerships with Service Provider Organizations, provincial and national tourism organizations/associations, community partners, and tourism operators in the region being served. Core e-learning modules related to front desk, housekeeping, and cooking operations will be augmented by microlearning assets. These will reinforce course learning and provide additional information to contextualize the learning content and provide tailored supports to the racialized groups our program aims to upskill and prepare for Ontario’s tourism workforce.
