Description

BACKGROUND:

The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) was created in 1997 to deliver public safety services on behalf of the Government of Ontario in four key sectors:

Boilers and pressure vessels and their associated Operating Engineers;
Amusement and elevating devices (elevators, escalators, ski lifts); and
Hydrocarbon fuels (transportation, storage and distribution, utilization);

TSSA is a not-for-profit, self-funded statutory corporation that administers and enforces public safety laws in the four designated sectors under the province’s Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000 and associated regulations. With headquarters in Toronto, TSSA has 400 employees across Ontario, 70% of whom work in operations. Governed by a 13-member board of directors, the authority is accountable to the Ontario government, residents of Ontario and other stakeholders. TSSA funds its operations by charging its industry clients a fee for services it provides.

TSSA intends to retain a service provider with expertise in strategic planning and facilitation to assist the organization in developing a new 5-year strategic plan.
