18-TAM-001 - Delivery of Pre-employment Psychological Assessment Services

The Province requires a service provider for the delivery of pre-employment psychological assessment services for individuals applying for Peace Officer roles. There are currently two (2) Departments that hire individuals into positions where the incumbent performs a law enforcement role and is required to be appointed and retain the designation of Peace Officer. Peace Officer law enforcement activities are currently distinct to the Departments of Environment and Parks and Justice and Solicitor General and include the work of conservation officers, park rangers, fish and wildlife officers and sheriffs. Work is performed by employees in these occupations throughout the province of Alberta.

Departments hiring Peace Officers, require applicants to undergo a pre-employment psychological assessment as part of the recruitment process. Common competencies for these roles and identified standardized assessment tools are necessary for the successful performance of the duties with a specific focus on risk management associated with the use of weapons and potential use of force.
