The City is considering issuing RFPs for certain maintenance areas currently managed by Community Operations. This RFEOI is to provide information around potential proponents for that activity and give the City a better understanding of the costs involved.
The areas currently under consideration are:
Class 2 Parks:
Class 2 parks and green spaces typically include most of the public open space areas such as: linear parks, boulevards, medians, playground spaces, walkways, dog parks, and entrance areas to neighbourhoods. They may include shrub beds and perennial flowers. The maintenance schedule including mowing, trimming, weeding and pruning is based on a 12-14-day cycle The City Class 2 parks. Class 2 parks cover an area of approximately 78 acres.
Class 3 Parks:
Class 3 Parks are green spaces that surround naturalized areas around storm ponds, streams, lakes and wooded areas are usually dedicated as environmental Reserve. Buffer areas and perimeters along regional or local trails, pathways or bridges are assigned as Class 3 parks by the city. The maintenance schedule including mowing, trimming, weeding and pruning is based on a monthly cycle. The City Class 3 Parks cover an area of approximately 29 acres.
Rough Cut Mowing:
Rough cut mowing or Class 4 green spaces are areas that include ditches, highway or railway buffers, berms and power lines ( e.g., Altalink ). The maintenance schedule including mowing and trimming is monthly from May to September. Rough cut covers an area of approximately 1500 acres.
Pathway Snow Removal:
Snow removal is necessary 6 days a week when needed. Snow is removed on Sunday’s. Snow removal commences when accumulations reach 3 cm. All snow will removal will need to be performed within 48 hours after a snowfall. It does not include snow on sidewalks or pathways fronting or abutting residential, commercial or school properties. There is also requirement for on call availability to be provided for event driven requests. The City currently has approximately 38 km of pathways throughout the city.
Irrigation System Maintenance:
Irrigation system maintenance will include Start-up, blow-out, and maintenance of 20 irrigation systems throughout the city.
• Start-up of irrigation systems will need to be completed within four weeks of ground thaw.
• Blow-out of all systems need to start in September and completed by the end of October.
• Damaged irrigation systems will need to be repaired within 3 weeks of identification, unless special parts are required or other system installation or repair projects are in the queue.
