Description

Depuis 2002, des projets similaires ont été effectués dans le sud du Golfe du Saint Laurent (Zone 4T de l’OPANO) sur le hareng d’automne. Il est important de pêcher un filet expérimental à mailles variable afin de déterminer l’effectif des classes d’âge qui accèdent à la population exploitable et de déceler les changements dans la taille à maturité qui pourraient affecter la capturabilité, car ce sont les effectifs des nouvelles classes exploitables qui influencent le plus les décisions prises d’une année à l’autre sur les niveaux de pêche convenables. La conduite de cette étude sur les principales frayères de hareng dans le sud du golfe du Saint-Laurent offrira une meilleure compréhension de l'abondance zonale de poissons dans la région et améliorera l'évaluation des stocks de printemps de cette espèce.
