Description:
This general statement of Work is intended to provide Proponents with a description of the Work. It is not intended to specify or imply the total terms and conditions of the final Agreement, which York and the Selected Proponent(s) will establish.
Global, innovative and diverse, Schulich School of Business (“SSB”) offers business programs year-round at two (2) Toronto campuses — its new state-of-the-art complex on York University’s main campus and its downtown Miles S. Nadal Management Centre located in the heart of the city’s financial district. Schulich offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate business degrees that lead to careers in the private, public and nonprofit sectors, and has more than 27,000 alumni working in approximately 90 countries. Schulich pioneered Canada’s first International MBA (“IMBA”) and International BBA (“iBBA”) degrees, as well as North America’s first ever cross-border executive MBA degree, the Kellogg-Schulich Executive MBA. Schulich’s Executive Education Centre provides executive development programs annually to more than 16,000 executives in Canada and abroad.
The Master of Business Administration (“MBA”) and International Master of Business Administration (“IMBA”) programs provide a Team Building Program – Relationship Day during Fall and Winter intakes. These sessions will be held in late August or early September and early January. (This past year these events were run on September 8, 9 & 10, 2017 and January 5 & 7, 2018.)
Team Building Program delivery timing is as follows:
- Fall intake – Three (3) days
This is a one (1) day program run three (3) times –approximately 300 to 350 students with 100 students per day.
- Winter intake – Two (2) days
This is a one (1) day program run two (2) times – approximately 75 to 125 students with about 40 to 65 students per day.
A minimum of ten (10) trainers are needed per day for the above venues.
In addition, other master-level programs (e.g., the Master of Real Estate and Infrastructure or Master of Management programs) may wish to use a Team Building Program to complement their curriculum. The timing and scope of these optional will be determined on a case-by-case basis but will not exceed 100 students per day.
Objectives
The objective of this RFP is to engage a qualified Proponent to provide comprehensive orientation team building programs for the Schulich School of Business MBA, IMBA and other master-level degree programs.
The team building services from the Selected Proponent will be utilized annually by MBA students. However, IMBA and other master-level students will utilize the team building program on an as needed basis annually.
Deliverables
- Logistical/Operational Requirements
The Selected Proponent shall provide all required equipment including suitable venue and catering for all team building events. They shall meet all required logistical/operational requirements, including but not limited to the following:
- Have on staff, an adequate number of trained facilitators to ensure excellence of delivery, experience/knowledge of SSB’s master-level programs, culture and other requirements;
- Have adequate equipment and provide appropriate off-site venues to conduct the training and orientation;
- Be able to work with SSB’s programs units (i.e., MBA, IMBA, and other master-level programs) to develop and modify content as needed and to address issues in a timely fashion; and
- Have a curriculum which provides an opportunity to explore team skills and learning in an outdoor or on-site environment. This provides an opportunity to learn about team and group principles without assuming the norms of a classroom.
- Academic/Pedagogical Requirements
The Selected Proponent’s Proposal must inherently provide opportunities for experience and reflection, not simply through teaching, but through facilitated and self-directed learning of York’s SSB students. To that end, the Selected Proponent shall meet the following academic/pedagogical requirements during the term of the Agreement:
- The Instructional methodology must:
- Include facilitation which is supportive and also builds peer accountability through self-directed learning activities; and
- Provide exposure to different leadership styles from peers.
- The Pedagogy must allow for:
- Opportunities to learn team development theories/models in order to provide a framework for discussion, additional learning in the program and application;
- Content ‘take-aways’ and concepts which provide connection to the values, concepts, courses and skill requirements within the master-level programs. Specifically, these ‘take-aways’ must include emotional intelligence, personality differences, group cohesion and collaboration, norm setting, comfort with ambiguity, social/interpersonal skills, decision making, and others as required; and
- The context and approach must move students out of the formal environment to provide opportunities for reflective learning and self-evaluation.
- The activities must:
- Include learning around collaboration, tolerance of differences, goal setting, developing norms and other social/interpersonal skills;
- Be able to take most students out of their habituated classroom learning environment;
- Be structured in such a way as to facilitate rapport building and relationship development among group members. This is essential as these team building activities need to set the stage for future group work at Schulich while building community;
- Focus on the ability to make decisions under uncertainty – experience stress and how it impacts team dynamics – debrief on team process as well as in a more holistic way – including business, career and other choices students will make in their futures; and
- Encourage students to confront diversity and its many dimensions – all elements including cultural and personality.
