Description

The University is interested in purchasing a Nanoparticle Tracking System with the following components:

high sensitivity camera
temperature controlled
532nm green laser
Fluorescence enabled
syringe pump and concentration upgrade
Components must be integrated to function together and must include installation and training

Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis relates the rate of Brownian motion to particle size through the Stokes-Einstein equation. The requested equipment is realized through size determination based on a particle by particle basis, thus overcoming the inherent weaknesses associated with ensemble techniques. The requested equipment uses video to form the basis of the analysis, providing accurate real-time characterization of events such as particle aggregation and dissolution. Furthermore, the requested equipment’s strategy is sensitive to the refractive index of the particles being examined, allowing for populations of different refractive index (RI) to be characterized in-situ. In addition to differentiating populations based on RI, the requested equipment can distinguish particle populations based on fluorescence. The requested configuration will include a fluorescence mode which will provide detection of labeled particle populations. This is particularly useful when examining mixtures of different vesicle species. The requested equipment’s single particle detection system allows particle concentration to be determined in a fast and non-destructive way. Since the requested equipment’s measurements are performed on solutions, no chemical or physical manipulations are necessary, allowing vesicles to be recovered unaltered. In addition, each particle is individually and simultaneously analyzed, thus, the concentration measured is in terms of number of particles (vesicles) per volume. The requested configuration will allow for a dynamic concentration range of three orders of magnitude (106-109 particles per mL).
