UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO - NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD A SINGLE SOURCE CONTRACT: #21-075
Mephisto MOPA 55W Laser System
The University of Waterloo (UW) intends to award a single source contract to Coherent Canada Inc, Markham, ON, Canada, for the purchase of a Mephisto MOPA 55W Laser System. The budget for this entire package is approximately $110,000 CAD, not including taxes/HST.
This is an Advanced Notice indicating to the supplier community that UW intends to award a contract for this equipment to a pre-identified supplier. If no other supplier submits, on or before the closing date of this notice, a statement of specifications that satisfies the stated requirements set out in this Notice, the competitive requirements of the University are considered to have been met. Following notification to any suppliers not successful in demonstrating that their statement of specifications meets the requirements set out in this Notice, the contract may then be awarded to the pre-identified supplier.
If other potential suppliers submit statements of specifications during the fifteen calendar day posting period, and meet the requirements set out in this Notice, UW will proceed to a Request for Proposal process, in order to award the contract.
Process - Suppliers who can provide equivalent equipment with proven functionality required for the research, within budget, are encouraged to submit a statement of specifications, in writing, to the contact person identified in this Notice, on or before the closing date of this Notice. The statement of specifications must unequivocally demonstrate how the supplier meets these advertised requirements within budget.
SPECIFICATIONS –
The MEPHISTO MOPA being purchased is an all-solid-state, diode-pumped, laser system providing single-frequency cw output (1064nm) with a power of 55W. The Master Oscillator Power Amplifier (MOPA) system, which consists of a compact sealed laser head and rack-mount type power supply, features ultra-low optical noise and near diffraction-limited output beam performance.
Mephisto MOPA 55W Laser System Specifications:
-Spectral linewidth (over 100ms): 1kHz
-Relative intensity noise: < -130db/Hz, f > 20kHz
-Optical noise: < 0.06 % rms (measured from 10Hz – 2MHz)
-Near diffraction limited beam with M^2: < 1.3
-Coherence length: > 1km

SOLE SOURCE JUSTIFICATION No other company can offer the functionality of this laser within the budget. This is a uniquely capable laser. It has an extremely narrow linewidth (1 kHz) coupled with high power and extremely low noise.
The University of Waterloo is unaware of any other supplier positioned to offer us a similarly discounted package.
