High power, mode-locked laser
The University of Waterloo (UW) intends to award a single source contract to Coherent Inc., of Santa Clara, CA, USA, for a Paladin SCAN 532-36000 Laser System.
This is an Advanced Notice indicating to the supplier community that UW intends to award a contract for this equipment to a pre-identified supplier. If no other supplier submits, on or before the closing date of this notice, a statement of qualifications that satisfies the stated requirements set out in this Notice, the competitive requirements of the University are considered to have been met. Following notification to any suppliers not successful in demonstrating that their statement of specifications meets the requirements set out in this Notice, the contract may then be awarded to the pre-identified supplier.
If other potential suppliers submit statements of specifications during the fifteen calendar day posting period, and meet the requirements set out in this Notice, UW will proceed to a Request for Proposal process, in order to award the contract.
SPECIFICATIONS
A mode-locked laser fulfilling the following requirements is required:
- Laser wavelength: 532 nm
- Average laser power: >10 W
- Pulse width: 5-25 ns
- Repetition rate: >75 MHz
- Must be able to ensure repetition rate is within 50 kHz of an acceptable value.
The budget for this purchase is less than $180,000 CAD, plus HST.
SOLE SOURCE JUSTIFICATION
Coherent Inc.’s Paladin SCAN 532-36000 Laser System is the only equipment that we are aware of that offers this functionality - particularly the average laser power (requirement B) and the ability to provide a pre-selected repetition rate (requirement E) - within budget.
Process
Suppliers who can provide equipment with this functionality within budget may submit a statement of qualifications, in writing, to the contact person identified in this Notice on or before the closing date of this Notice. The statement of specifications must unequivocally demonstrate how the supplier meets these advertised requirements within budget.
