Background
Travel Manitoba is the only public/private non-profit tourism marketing organization that provides a province-wide platform to promote Manitoba as a premier travel destination. Travelmanitoba.com is the official tourism website for Manitoba with 1.4 million sessions in 2018. The website plays a critical role in trip planning and encouraging repeat visitation. The purpose of the website is to provide easy access to travel information to more visitors. In an effort to continuously improve user experiences on the website, Travel Manitoba is seeking proposals for Website Usability testing for TravelManitoba.com.

Project Objectives

The primary objectives of the website usability testing, in order of priority:

To collect data on users’ usage of Travel Manitoba’s website, and to use this data to evaluate a user’s ability to find the information they are seeking.
To find out whether the navigation of the website meets user expectations.
To gain insights on how site content is being used by Travel Manitoba’s target markets during the inspiration, exploration, and trip planning process.
To identify potential “problem areas” of the website and gain insight of how they can be addressed in the next iteration of the website.
To provide recommendations and directions on website navigation and structure for Travel Manitoba’s consideration.

Scope of Work

In close consultation with Travel Manitoba, the contractor will recommend appropriate methodologies and sample sizes to adequately respond to the primary objectives of the project. The methodology must include a multi-device user-testing component, especially mobile user testing, since 60% of the site users are mobile users.

Travel Manitoba concentrates its efforts in markets where Manitoba has a competitive advantage. Our Canadian target markets are Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. In the US, the neighbouring states of Minnesota and North Dakota as well as Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana are key markets. In addition, California, New York and Texas also have strong growth potential for Manitoba. Participants of this project must represent the website’s key target audiences from the following markets: Manitoba, Ontario, North Dakota (or Minnesota), Texas (or California).

Travel Manitoba purchased Destination Canada’s Explorer Quotient (EQ) customer segmentation tool that defines traveller types based on their travel values, motivations, and desire for certain kinds of experiences. This information provided a comprehensive understanding of Manitoba’s highest potential customers. Using the EQ program, Travel Manitoba has identified “Authentic Experiencers”, “Cultural Explorers”, and ‘Free Spirits” as the three of nine traveller types that are drawn to the tourism experiences that Manitoba has to offer. Testing on the effectiveness of the website against these three target audiences is preferred, but not exclusive. The project will proceed under the direction of a steering committee and will be administered by Travel Manitoba. The consultant will identify the research methodology, create a project plan of specific tactics and timelines. The consultant will be expected to meet with the steering committee, providing verbal and written progress reports as required.

The consultant will produce draft and final copies of a summary report documenting the research findings, conclusions and recommendations. All research findings are to be submitted in an electronic format compatible with MS office.

Budget

A budget must be included that covers the entire project including but not limited to: the planning and implementation of the testing and reporting.

Schedule

The final report must be submitted by Tuesday, April 30, 2019.
The consultant must be available immediately for planning meetings with the Project Steering Committee.

Proposal Content
The proposal must include the following:

A detailed outline of how your company proposes to implement and manage the project;
The name, function and experience of staff assigned to the project including any services and facilities to which portions of the contract may be sub-contracted (specific experience in the tourism industry should be indicated);
The name of the person who will be the key contact on the project;
Proposed methodology and a detailed timeline for each element of the project;
Details on website navigation tracking technology (including the name of the tracking tool);
A complete budget breakdown including costs to conduct all aspects of the research and produce a report that analyzes the data collected;
A profile of the company including qualifications and relevant experiences.

Weighted Proposal Assessment Criteria:

20% demonstrated experience in researching like or related issues and conducting similar studies.
25% ability to fulfill project objectives and technical requirements
25% demonstrated experience in developing and implementing a variety of appropriate methodologies.
20% ability to test in Travel Manitoba’s target markets
10% on budget presented.

The requested Proposal and detailed budget must be received no later than Wednesday, Feb 13, 2019.
