Historica Canada runs programs and produces content that build awareness of Canadian history and citizenship. Our best-known offerings include the Heritage Minutes, a collection of more than 90 dramatized vignettes from Canadian history, and The Canadian Encyclopedia, a free online resource used by over 13 million people annually.
The Memory Project brings veterans’ stories online and in classrooms and community groups. Our Citizenship Challenge asks Canadians to test their national knowledge through a mock citizenship exam. Historica Canada regularly conducts public opinion polls and creates videos, podcasts and learning tools on issues of national interest.
Recent projects include the Canada During COVID-19 archive, the Voices From Here Indigenous oral history series, the Residential Schools podcast and videos, the Record of Service podcast and videos, and the Critical Digital Literacy campaign – to name a few. All our content is developed with accompanying learning tools and classroom resources.
At Historica Canada, we recognize that the stories we tell matter – and the way that we tell them matters. Across the world, as well as within Canada, we see the impacts of historical injustice and the ongoing systemic racism faced by Black, Indigenous and racialized communities. We are committed to helping to build a better Canada that amplifies missing voices; that recognizes multiple perspectives; that celebrates our achievements and acknowledges our failings.
