The Province seeks a best value supplier to provide two birddog aircraft for lease or purchase, in accordance with the evaluation methodology set out in this RFP. The procurement of a birddog aircraft is designed to enhance aerial coordination and support in firefighting operations and to strengthen overall firefighting capabilities. The birddog aircraft will serve as a dedicated aerial spotter, facilitating better communication and coordination between ground firefighting teams and other aircraft, such as CL-415 water bombers. This enhanced coordination is crucial for optimizing water drops, targeting fire hotspots more accurately, and managing airspace effectively. Equipped with advanced navigation and mapping tools, the birddog will provide real-time data on fire progression, weather conditions, and terrain. This situational awareness is essential for making informed decisions, strategizing fire suppression efforts, and adapting to dynamic conditions on the ground. By streamlining the coordination process and providing precise data, the Birddog aircraft will improve the overall efficiency of firefighting operations. This includes faster response times, more effective use of resources, and reduced risk of fire spread, ultimately leading to better containment and mitigation of wildfires. The birddog will be particularly valuable in managing fires in rugged or remote areas where access is challenging. Its ability to perform detailed aerial observations and guide other aircraft will ensure that even the most inaccessible fire zones receive appropriate attention and resources.
