The Food Processing Human Resource Council (FPHRC), supported by the Office of Literacy and Essential Skills (OLES), has created the project “Succeeding at Work– Employability and Essential Skills for the Food & Beverage Manufacturing Industry”.
This initiative will focus on both improving the critical skilled labour shortages in the food and beverage manufacturing sector, as well as providing a path to long term employment for those individuals identified as coming from disadvantaged and/or under-utilized populations.
The Succeeding at Work employability training will create a new pool of workers for food and beverage manufacturers. This will enable employers to access individuals who have obtained sector-specific training. Succeeding at Work features 6-7 weeks of industry approved curriculum. Training includes nationally recognized food manufacturing technical training, employability or soft skill training, essential skills training, and increased overall job readiness. This training will be followed with a 3-week paid job placement. Participant assessment, literacy support during the program, a strong focus on strategic employment placement along with post employment participant and employer evaluation provides critical data for program sustainability. The project’s target audience includes individuals that represent the following demographics: unemployed/underemployed, Indigenous, new Canadians, women, youth and mature workers.
Succeeding at Work will take place in six (6) provinces across Canada. Locations within each province are areas of interest based on location of employers and availability of program participants. These are areas of interest. The proponent may suggest other areas. If additional locations are submitted, the proponent must demonstrate industry need and participant availability.
BRITISH COLUMBIA - Locations of interest are: Vancouver (Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond) & Abbotsford/Chilliwack
ALBERTA - Locations of interest are: Calgary/High River/Brooks & Edmonton
MANITOBA - Locations of interest are: Winnipeg & Steinbach
ONTARIO - Locations of interest are: Toronto & Waterloo Region (Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge & Guelph)
NEW BRUNSWICK - Locations of interest are: Charlotte County (St. Andrews, St. Stephens) & Moncton
NOVA SCOTIA - Locations of interest are: Halifax & Yarmouth
Proponents may apply for:
- One location per province
- Two locations within a province
- Proponent may demonstrate the industry/participant need for both cohorts per year in one location within the province. Verifiable data must be submitted at the time of application.
- Proponent may demonstrate the industry/participant need for additional cohorts per year and/or additional locations within the selected province. Verifiable data must be submitted at the time of application.
- The ability to manage 2 or more cohorts per year will be considered an asset.
