Description

In 2023, a feasibility study was undertaken that identified key upgrades needed for the Stein Water System (see attached feasibility study in Appendix A). Key improvements identified in the feasibility study include:

New intake from the Stein River
New reservoir
New slow sand filter cell
Back-up power on infrastructure components required for operation (including automatic transfer switch and consideration of future electrical requirements)
A third pump bay at Booster Pump #2 and Booster Pump #3 for future pump placement
Two new fire hydrants along Highway 12

This RFP only includes the new intake from the Stein River and the required components to interconnect the new intake to the existing Stein Water System Water Treatment Plant (WTP). Further, this RFP includes the new intake, a small booster pump station to house the new intake pumps and controls required to convey raw water to the WTP, backup power for the new intake and booster station, backwash station design for new intake, and new watermain design to interconnect the new intake to the existing WTP alignment and slow sand filters. The new reservoir, slow sand filter, third pump bay and backup power at Booster Pump #2 and Booster Pump #3, and two fire hydrants along Highway 12 are not included in this RFP and are apart of a separate project scope with others.
The new intake is anticipated to be placed nearby the existing Intake (Booster Station #1) at a suitable location on the Stein River located on the West Fraser. The new intake is intended to address aging infrastructure and improve overall efficiency of the intake system as the existing intake (and infiltration galleries) are found to frequently clog requiring significant operational and maintenance effort to meet existing community demands as identified in the 2023 Stein Water System Feasibility Study.
