Many IT departments at the University of Toronto run and maintain WordPress websites, and one of the central IT departments currently has a growing fleet of more than 300 WordPress websites, managed and hosted internally at the University. These are official public websites representing faculty departments, programs, institutes, courses, and administrative departments from within the University. As automation and platform-as-a-service solutions become readily available commercially, the University is looking for a solution to streamline and improve the processes of managing and hosting these websites. This translates to savings, shortening the time to deliver and enhancing the quality of service we provide to our internal clients. Additionally, cyber security has become a major concern over the last few years. In order to preserve and safeguard the reputation of the University, these public web presences are in need of modern architecture and dedicated security measures to prevent hackers from vandalism. The University is looking for a solution for our website development and administration team to host and manage our fleet of WordPress websites. The solution must demonstrate the ability to fulfill the functional and non-functional requirements listed below. In addition, the solution should demonstrate its ability to provide modern self-service, on-demand, platform-as-a-service capabilities to the University’s developers and administrators.
