Description:
This negotiated Request for Proposals (“RFP”) is an invitation by the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology on behalf of The Governing Council of the University of Toronto (the “University”) to prospective Proponents to submit Proposals for the provision of a Water Recirculation System and Aquaculture Tanks for Aquatics Facility as further described in the RFP.
The Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology is developing a facility for aquatics research. The primary function of this facility is to allow rearing of all life stages of cool-water and cold-water fishes, such as trout and salmon. The major infrastructure of this facility (i.e., walls, doors, flooring, lighting) is under construction, and the Successful Proponent is expected to deliver and install a recirculation system that supplies clean water to aquaculture tanks and chills the water, as well as all the above-ground the piping necessary to connect the system to aquaculture tanks.
To perform research on aquatic vertebrates, it will be necessary to install a central filtration system and aquaculture tanks in the basement of the Ramsay Wright building at the University. The facility will host a variety of Ontario fish species, including salmon, trout, bass, and perch. Because a variety of different species will be used, the system must be capable of regulating water chemistry, chilling incoming water to a minimum of 12ºC (ideally 8ºC), pumping water to a system of tanks, filtering the water so that it may be recirculated through the system again. The system must also be piped so that it supplies water to fish tanks that will be placed in the facility.
It is the University’s intention to enter into Agreement with one (1) legal entity. The term of the Agreement is to be for a period of two (2) years with an option in favour of the University to extend the Agreement on the same terms and conditions for an additional term of up to three (3) years at one (1) year intervals. It is anticipated that the Agreement will be executed on or around January 2018.
