Description:
The Biological Sciences Facility (BSF) at the Ramsay Wright Zoological Labs is a multifaceted animal vivarium that supports both research and teaching initiatives at the University of Toronto. The vivarium is undergoing a major renovation with subsequent equipment upgrades. New Aquatic Research Equipment is required at the Ramsay Wright Zoological Labs to support cutting edge research using a unique animal model.
The BSF is looking for a qualified Proponent to supply a recirculating rack system designed to fully house aquatic salamanders at various stages of life cycle and specialized breeding tanks to allow propagation of animals. This will consist of at least four racks for normal animal housing and one rack designed for breeding animals at an independent water temperature and flow rate from housing racks. The Proponent’s system should be designed to fit and function within the specified room at the BSF (floorplan included with RFP). The system should be capable of housing a minimum of 90-100 adult animals within 8-10 liter tanks and an additional 80-100 animals in 2.5-4 liter tanks. The system should be capable of monitoring and maintaining strict rates of water temperature, purity, flow, and chemical dosage.
It is essential that the Proponent that provides the recirculating system is responsive in case of remote troubleshooting and provide timely on-site support when needed. A system that has minimal operating costs, resists algal overgrowth, can tolerate repeated cleaning cycles, and is expandable to accommodate more racks in the future, would be preferred.
