The University Health Network is Canada's largest research hospital, and a major teaching/research hospital of the University of Toronto with a vision of having global impact in biomedical and health care research.
The hospital is looking to carry out a two-phase renovation project of approximately 1,300 gross square feet (Phase I) and approximately 3,000 gross square feet (Phase II) of the 10th floor of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre located at 610 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 2C1. The purpose of these renovations is to expand the PM Clinical Trials pharmacy space. As an initial step, the hospital is looking for a design consultant to conduct preliminary planning and design for the scope of renovations intended for the space.
Clinical trials volumes at the Princess Margaret have grown rapidly over the last 5 years. Pharmacy activities are mostly conducted in the 4th floor Systemic Therapy Pharmacy in tandem with services provided to Systemic Therapy. While adjacency to Systemic Therapy is needed for workflow and efficiency as most patients are treated on the 4th floor for both research and standard of care, all adjacent spaces on the 4th floor have been earmarked for other programs. The Phase I renovations include the relocation of the oral clinical trials drug program from the 4th floor to the 10th floor.
While Phase I will address the immediate needs to alleviate the pressure off the 4th floor, Phase II will involve the overall expansion of Clinical Trials Pharmacy by developing a purpose-built long-term space that can accommodate the operating requirements with the potential to service the expected accelerated growth of clinical trials at the Princess Margaret. The Phase II design will include functional programming.
The design to expand the Clinical Trials Pharmacy should include upgrades to existing space for benching/workstations, flooring, ceiling tiles, HVAC requirements, pneumatic tube, and security requirements. The design will include all activities related to the demolition of existing infrastructure, the addition/removal of walls and doors to accommodate pharmacy workflow. Part of the design focus on the reconfiguration of the 4th floor once certain processes are relocated to the 10th floor, in order to maximize use of existing space.
The construction for Phase I should begin in April 2020 and be completed by July 2020, The construction for Phase II should begin in October 2021 (Phase II) and be completed by February 2021.
UHN is requesting separate pricing for Phase I design and Phase II design (including functional programming). UHN reserves the right to award all of or part of the RFP.
