This Request for Proposals is addressed to the development and implementation of two surveys intended to deepen our understanding of the barriers preventing women from establishing careers in the trucking and logistics industry. The first survey will assess the perspectives, practices, and plans of approximately 50 industry employers with respect to recruiting, retaining, and promoting women workers. The second survey will explore perceptions of the industry among career-seeking women, aiming to capture responses from 1000-1500 individuals. Taken together, the surveys will highlight any disparities between internal/external and employer/career-seeker perceptions of the industry, and provide much needed insight into the obstacles and opportunities that continue to shape women’s participation in the trucking and logistics workforce.
In addition to designing and conducting the surveys, the successful contractor will analyze survey results, summarizing key findings and insights in a Final Report to be delivered to THRC in PDF form with accompanying presentation slides. The research contained in the report will inform ongoing strategic initiatives including THRC’s Women with Drive event series, annual colloquium, and online resource hub for industry HR professionals. The analysis is expected to serve as a compass for the development of updated best practices, training modules, and policy recommendations aimed at improving the representation of and career prospects for women in the trucking and logistics industry.
With these objectives in sight, the successful contractor will:
- Develop and conduct a survey to assess career-seeking women’s perceptions of and experiences in the trucking and logistics industry;
- Develop and conduct an employer-facing survey to assess current practices with respect to attracting, retaining, and promoting women workers;
- Perform analysis of survey data once obtained, summarizing findings and insights in a Final Report;
- Recommend meaningful, robust and practical indicators to be used in THRC’s ongoing efforts to improve the status of women in the industry.
