The Scope of the Piikani K-12 replacement school project includes, but is not limited to the following work:
• Construction of a new K-12 School on the Piikani Nation reserve, in the province of Alberta.
• The project includes a new single storey school including second level mechanical rooms with a total new construction area of 7,572m2 (Main 7164m2 + Mech 226m2 + Mech 182m2)
• Site work includes regrading and drainage of the site to suit the placement of the new school, parking lot/drop off with access roads, sports field/new running track, basketball court, sidewalks, compound and outdoor teaching space.
The building form in plan evolved largely due to the program requirements; with the desire for the ‘Tepee’ Cultural Teachings and Cafeteria Space to be the focal point and celebration of Piikani Nation Culture when arriving at the school. Separate Entrances for the K-6 & 7-12 on either side of Tepee creates an interesting and harmonious access and control point to each wing. Upon entering the building each wing has its own Reception with direct access to the Tepee, Music/Drama Stage, Commercial Kitchen, Library and Gymnasiums. This arrangement was pivotal on how the school was then set up in classroom wings. A K-6 elementary wing and a CTS Junior/Senior 7-12 wing sets up the rest of the building form
