The proposed facility will provide a space to deliver services that support the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness of First Nations children, youth, and families with approaches that ensure connection to language and culture, as well as recognize historical and contemporary disadvantage, contextual and cultural differences.
The Galgapothla Society/ Gwa’sala ‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations (GNN) Child and Family Services require this additional space immediately and facilities to house administrative services and program delivery that is not readily available at any alternative location. This funding is critical as there are no feasible alternative locations available for lease or purchase, and the additional services we propose to house through this facility upgrade would be greatly postponed if we cannot secure immediate funds to support the purchase, renovation and fit up of the property at 8755 Granville St.
The renovated facilities will provide accessible, confidential, culturally appropriate and age-appropriate program setting, that will include administrative space, potential offices for other CFS agencies or First Nations, and, where required, accommodations for personnel to deliver FNCFS prevention services. The Galgapothla Society will require roughly two-thirds of the space immediately upon completion of the purchase and renovations. The facilities will be put to use as soon as available to start dealing with current service and capacity shortfalls while a determination of new service rollout timing is finalized through completion of a Jurisdiction Coordination Agreement and Fiscal agreement with the Provincial and Federal governments.
