Mandated by the SLFNHA Chiefs in Assembly, SLFNHA developed the 2006 Anishinabe Health Plan (AHP) in accordance with Resolution 06/04 which provided a systems approach to guide the development of a First Nations controlled and governed health system. The health plan addressed the need for a comprehensive integrated primary health care model and implementation plan. The plan outlined the creation of a district physician’s plan within the integrated primary health care framework as well as a nursing services plan, an allied health services plan and addressed a mechanism for the governance and management of the primary health care model by First Nations. The AHP has guided the work of SLFNHA since that time with oversight, advocacy and lobbying provided by the Chiefs Council on Health (CCOH).
At the Sioux Lookout First Nations Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Thunder Bay, Sept.6-8, 2022, the Chiefs in Assembly passed resolution #22-28 Prioritization of Community Based Health Services and Review of the Anishinabe Health Plan (see appendix “A”). In calling for a review of the AHP, the Chiefs in Assembly were concerned with bringing greater focus to the prioritization of community-based health services and to bring about improvements.
