The Sioux Lookout Regional Physician Service Incorporated (SLRPSI) is a non-profit organization that currently oversees the management of Family physician services and is planning to add specialist services in Sioux Lookout and surrounding First Nations communities. It is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors consisting of representatives from Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA), Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC), and the three physician practice groups (Northern Practice, and the Hugh Allen Clinic Family Health Group, and AMDOCS Inc). SLRPSI contracts with SLFNHA for management of all the operational activities of SLRPSI including the Northern Clinic in Sioux Lookout and physician services within much of the region.
Sioux Lookout is a medical services hub for the town of Sioux Lookout, surrounding municipalities, and 31 remote First Nations communities. Family physicians working through SLRPSI provide clinical services at the Northern Clinic and Hugh Allen Clinic in Sioux Lookout, and in the First Nations communities in the Sioux Lookout region. They also work in SLMHC providing inpatient, emergency room, anesthesia, and obstetrical services, as well as outpatient services including the Fracture Clinic, Chemotherapy Unit, Cardiac Rehab department, and Day Medicine.
The Sioux Lookout Area has a high burden of illness, particularly in infectious disease, chronic disease, pediatric illness, and mental health needs. The region’s population is growing, and we anticipate services needs will grow correspondingly.
