The Giant Mine Remediation Project Team will be posting a Main Construction Manager (MCM) tender on Buy & Sell this spring/summer.
Industry Day is being held Thursday, February 25, 2016 in Yellowknife to outline the MCM approach, discuss details of the remedation, and to provide a networking forum, to result in potential bidders being better positioned to participate in the tender for the Main CM contract, or in future CM work packages that will be tendered by the MCM.
The Project Team is hosting Industry Day on Thursday, February 25, 2016, from 9:30 A.M to 5:30 P.M. at the Explorer Hotel, in Yellowknife, in the Katimavik A & B meeting room. PWGSC works closely with co-proponents, Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) to develop contracts for work to be carried out at the Giant Mine site, and asks that you register in advance of the event with: Katherine Bogus: katherine.bogus@tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca, by Friday, February 19, 2016.
Individuals and contractors unable to attend this session are encouraged to submit company profiles (see below) to be shared with the Giant Mine Remediation Project Team-- PWGSC, INAC, and, GNWT.
This years Industry Day will provide participants with:
1.
An overview of the Main Construction Management (MCM) approach;
2. Updates on the Project and upcoming site activities;
3. An overview of GNWT programs andservices aimed at NWT businesses;
4. Information about doing business with the Government of Canada;
5. A forum for networking with local contractors and Aboriginal and northern businesses; and,
6. An opportunity to ask questions, and share ideas about the Project and the MCM contract, and other details such as the Basis of Pricing and Contract clauses and conditions..

Background:
The Giant Mine located in Yellowknife, had been in operation under several owners for approximately 56 years, starting in 1948. In 1999, the owner, Royal Oak Mines, went into receivership. The Government of Canada has taken on the responsibilityof the existing environmental liabilities on the property, including approximately 237,000 tonnes of arsenic trioxide, stored in underground chambers. The Giant site is currently under Care and Maintenance while the Project enters its Design phase before full remediation begins. The implementation phase of the remediation plan will have a number of individual components including, the freeze program, tailings cover, Baker Creek alignment, surface water management, building demolition, surface openings and pit closures, hazardous materials disposal and contaminated soils. Long term contracting opportunities for post-remediation activities will be required for the construction and operation of a new water treatment plant, maintenance of the freeze system, site security and monitoring. Post-remediation activities are expected for 100 years with 20 year review periods. The Government of Canada is committed to a fair, open, transparent and competitive procurement process.
