HEALTH SERVICES
The HHN and VHN Pharmacy currently uses a completely manually fill process for various types of trays used in Operating Rooms and Crash Carts. Staff also prepare various kits for controlled medications, for patient transport between facilities and other situations when a similar group of medications is needed to treat a patient. The replenishment system for those trays and kits is very labor intensive and it is proving difficult to properly manage inventory, expiry dates and rotation of stock.
With ongoing supply chain disruption, the close management of some critical medication inventory is especially important. VHN recently introduced Intelliguard solution in one of its facilities.
As part of a pharmacy renovation initiative, HHN and VHN Pharmacy is assessing its equipment needs including equipment and software solutions to facilitate management of trays and kits. Overall, the proposed solution should help maximize storage capacity and floor space as well as optimize the distribution system and staff productivity.
HHN and VHN Pharmacy will be integrating technology into the current manual system to assist staff in performing replenishment, monitoring stock levels, and managing inventory. Having a solution that is integrated with the current Pharmacy Information System (Meditech/Cerner) to assist with billing is desirable. Ease of access and cost of consumables will be factors considered.
The solution should support handling of all types of medications included in tray/kits including controlled medications, large bulky items such as infusion bags or bottles, ampoules, and vials of various sizes.
