2024-01-3130-INS-51160-013 - Analysis of Projected Trades Jobs in Alberta Northeastern Region (HUB) - REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL

Portage College and Lakeland College are initiating a project to ascertain the training needs for the trades in Northeast Alberta in the short term (until 2025 and long term until 2030). It is already known by the Alberta HUB (the Regional Economic Development Alliance of Northeast Alberta), regional economic development officers and industry that there is a shortage of qualified trades people to support existing businesses and industry in the Northeast part of the province. This project is intended to gain a better understanding of the current and future market demand for qualified trades people within the Northeastern part of the province to better predict and target specific training needs to support the region. The Northeastern part of the province is being defined by the regional stewardship area of the two institutions initiating this project and covers an area from Boyle, AB to the west to the Saskatchewan border in the east and to as far as Conklin in the north to Wainwright in the south.
We are seeking a detailed analysis of the projected trades jobs required in the defined Northeastern region. The final report will include identification the projected construction projects that will impact the demand for skilled trades professionals within the region by 2025 and by 2030. The number of short term and long-term skilled trades positions (i.e. construction versus operation) required within the region currently, by 2025 and by 2030. The number of current skilled trades professionals within the region and the gap in both short-term and long-term demand per skilled trade. Further an analysis of the most likely demographic of learners to meet the demand including quantitative percentages of learners likely to come from local high school learners, local reskilling adult learners and in-migration.
