Description

The City of Calgary’s Waste & Recycling Services (WRS) currently does not accept Packaging Foam for recycling at any of its Waste Management Facilities (WMFs) and the material is disposed of in the landfill.
Packaging Foam takes up valuable landfill space and contaminates other recyclable materials in The City’s Blue Cart and Community Recycling Depot Programs. The City will be implementing a 6-month pilot project that would accept Packaging Foam at The City’s Spyhill WMF.

The Packaging Foam will be collected in 2 separate areas at the Spyhill WMF where most residential customers (~114,000 per year) dispose of their waste. The City will provide the storage containers for the temporary storage of the Packaging Foam collected at the Spyhill WMF, while the Supplier will be responsible for the collection, transport, processing, and marketing of the Packaging Foam.
