Alberta’s provincial parks and recreation areas conserve our natural heritage and provide popular nature-based recreation opportunities to visitors from across the province and around the world. They also play a major role in Alberta’s tourism industry, providing opportunities for small businesses and having positive impacts on the economies of many local communities.
The intent of this RFP is to solicit and receive Proposals to provide rentals of non-motorized watercraft and bicycles, and mini golf operations. The term of the agreement is 3 years with the potential to extend for another 2 years.
Cypress Hills Provincial Park, Alberta includes 400+ campsites sites in 12 campgrounds, 4 group camping areas, 18 comfort camping units, 7 day use areas, several private camps for organizations such as Girl Guides, 250+ cottages, a hotel and other amenities. Average occupied campsite nights over the past 5 years is approximately 31,500. The park is located about 65 km south of Medicine Hat which has a population of 65,000 so day use visitation is also high. This opportunity occurs in Elkwater, a small community within Cypress Hills Provincial Park. The boat and bike rental location is near the main beach area in Elkwater. The mini golf course is located 400m east of this location.
Cypress Hills PP has over 90 km of hiking and biking trails, ranging from paved paths along Elkwater Lake to black diamond technical and flow downhill trails. Listed as one of the top ten iconic bike packing destinations in Canada, Cypress PP has a wide variety recreational opportunities for all visitors. Recent improvements and trail development has made Cypress Provincial Park one of the best mountain biking and trail destinations in Alberta.
The three lakes in Cypress Provincial Park offer a variety of experiences for visitors. Elkwater Lake is located next to the townsite and near the campgrounds, and is the largest lake in the park. It has three beaches, two boat launches and one hand launch. Both Spruce Coulee and Reesor Lake are smaller in size and offer a more intimate experience for non-powered watercraft users.
