RFI-2024Q2003 - EV Chargers (2 stalls)

Portage College's main campus is in Lac La Biche, AB, Canada. Our Facility is approximately 190,000 Sq. Ft. We offer Post-Secondary Education to students near and far, as well as International Students.

Our Facility's Electrical Incoming service is at 347/600 volts, 3 phase, 4 wire. Main switchboard is fed from a utility pad mount transformer located outside the building. Secondary distribution consists of step-down transformers, central distribution panels and branch circuit breaker panels. Overall, the electrical systems are in good condition.

Portage College has guests that drive Electric Vehicles from Edmonton or Calgary, AB, out to Lac La Biche, and currently have no options available to charge their cars for the home trip. We are looking at installing one or two chargers (see drawings attached).

Portage College's Electrical distribution has capacity to add an EV charger or two(2) (under investigation).

We need further education on what is needed, and what is available.

- What is the best charger that will charge up a vehicle's battery in 1-3 hours? Usually, our EV guests will drive 2 to 5 hours to our campus, have meetings, then drive back, sometimes the same day.

- Is there a pay option... is it flat charge or per Kilowatt Hour? How is the receivable managed? Or are businesses picking of the electricity charges for people to charge their cars?

- Are there grants available to apply for, for the installation and unit(s)?

Portage College Electrician will install the unit(s).
