07282023 - Municipal Development Plan

The Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8 (the “MD”) invites proposals through this Request for Proposal (the “RFP”) to finalize a comprehensive review and update of the Municipal Development Plan 2012 (the “MDP”). The 2012 MDP needs an update to address changes to the communities within the MD including higher demands for properly managed growth and development, addressing modernized regulations and current development trends, and ensuring alignment with new provincial legislation.

The MD is a diverse municipality located in Alberta along the eastern slopes of the Alberta Rocky Mountains, just east of the Banff National Park and Town of Canmore. The MD covers an area of approximately 2700 square kilometers and is comprised of Ranchlands and Agriculture, wilderness areas, and five hamlets. The MD is made up of primarily crown and agricultural lands and includes the Hamlets of Exshaw, Dead Man’s Flats, Harvie Heights, Benchlands and Lac des Arcs. Each community/area of the MD has unique characteristics and desires which should be reflected in the updated MDP document.
