UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO - NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD A SINGLE SOURCE CONTRACT: #20-064
Automated Flash Chromatography System
The University of Waterloo (UW), Department of Chemistry, intends to award a single source contract to Biotage, of Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, for the purchase of a Biotage Isolera-Dalton 2000 Automated Flash Chromatography (AFC) system with mass detector and rapid evaporation module.
This is an Advanced Notice indicating to the supplier community that UW may award a contract for this equipment to a pre-identified supplier. If no other supplier submits, on or before the closing date of this notice, a statement of specifications that satisfies the stated requirements set out in this Notice, the competitive requirements of the University are considered to have been met. Following notification to any suppliers not successful in demonstrating that their statement of specifications meets the requirements set out in this Notice, the contract may then be awarded to the pre-identified supplier.
If other potential suppliers submit statements of specifications during the fifteen-day calendar day posting period, and meet the requirements set out in this Notice, UW will proceed to a Request for Proposal process, in order to award the contract.
Process - Suppliers who can provide equivalent equipment with proven functionality required for the research, within budget, are encouraged to submit a statement of specifications, in writing, to the contact person identified in this Notice on or before the closing date of this Notice. The statement of specifications must unequivocally demonstrate how the supplier meets these advertised requirements within budget.
SPECIFICATIONS
The AFC system requires specific features that permit detection by uv/visible light absorption and by molecular mass measurement accompanied by rapid solvent evaporation capabilities.
The system package includes:
- Biotage Isolera One flash chromatography unit
- Biotage Dalton 2000 Mass Detector with Nanolink
- Biotage V-10 touch rapid evaporation system
- Step-up transformer
- Assorted silica and reverse phase flash chromatography columns
- Installation and training
- Extended 12 month warranty on all equipment
The budget for this purchase is approximately $200,000 CAD, not including tax/HST.
SINGLE SOURCE JUSTIFICATION
The research team identified and evaluated different equipment packages; none of the other vendors of automated flash chromatography (AFC) systems can provide all of the components that we have requested.
In addition, there is an Isolera One already in use in the lab; if the Biotage AFC System is purchased, this Isolera One unit can be rotated for Covid-related cleaning routines for use with the system.
