Description

BACKGROUND:
Notice is hereby given by the University of Ottawa of the intent to enter into a contract with Illumina Canada Ulc. to procure:

A NextSeq 2000 Sequencing System, an integrated system for automated generation of DNA clonal clusters by bridge amplification, sequencing, primary analysis and secondary analysis. Includes embedded touchscreen monitor and on-instrument computer, control software, and hardware accelerated DRAGEN™ Bio-IT secondary analysis pipelines;
1 year warranty and an additional 2 years of NextSeq 2000 Bronze Support Plan;
Installation and basic operating training.

PROCESS:
Suppliers that consider their equipment functional, successfully tested, readily available and fully compliant to the ACAN minimum requirements may submit, in writing, a statement of specifications to the contact person identified in this Notice, on or before the closing date of this Notice. In the statement of specifications, the supplier must unequivocally demonstrate how their equipment, at minimum, equals, or exceeds the stated requirements.

If no other supplier submits a statement of specifications, on or before the closing date of this Notice, the competitive requirements of the University of Ottawa will be considered having been met. Following notification to any suppliers not successful in unequivocally demonstrating that their statement of specifications equals or exceeds the requirements set out in this Notice, the contract may then be awarded to the pre-identified supplier.

INTENDED USE:
These components will be installed in the research facility at University of Ottawa main campus.

FUNCTIONALITY:
The equipment must conform to the following Minimum Requirements:

The system consists of one main equipment item and its components, and an instrument support plan:
i) NextSeq 2000 Sequencer:

A self-contained, dry, benchtop, mid-throughput sequencer via sequencing by synthesis
Flexibility in sequencing applications, including transcriptome analysis, single-cell sequencing, and targeted sequencing
Scalable throughput, capable of sequencing different read lengths, 1x50 bp, 2x50 bp, 2x100 bp, and 2x150 bp
Maximum outputs of up to 360 Gb in a single run (2x150 bp)
Maximum outputs of 1.2 billion reads in a single run (2x150 bp)
Generates data with a quality of Q30 for >= 85% of the bases when producing 2x150 bp data
Completes a full run in less than 50 hours for 2x150 bp read lengths
Run cost down to $20 USD per Gb
Uses preconfigured reagent cartridges
Integrated onboard, DRAGEN™ Bio-IT Platform of hardware-accelerated pipelines for secondary analysis
Must be compatible with Duplex Sequencing™ and TempO-Seq™ technologies for sample preparation
Standard 1 year warranty (parts and labour)

ii) 2 years of NextSeq 2000 Bronze Support Plan:

Includes full coverage for parts, labour, and travel
Remote Technical Support 8x5 (8 hours per day, Monday to Friday) with a 4-hr response
3 business day on-site response target
Control software and hardware updates
On-site applications support
Discounts on advanced training

Justification of Pre-Selected Supplier:
Supplier: Illumina Canada Ulc.

Justification:

The sequencer must use identical sequencing technologies to ensure consistency in creating data compatible with extensive databases produced over the past decade using Illumina NextSeq 500 sequencers. This is critical to provide full, seamless integration with existing/ongoing projects, datasets, and bioinformatics pipelines.
Most ongoing and upcoming projects use Duplex Sequencing™ and TempO-Seq™ technologies for sample preparation, therefore it is required that the sequencer must be compatible with and have validated standard operating protocols and kits available for use with both of these technologies.
