BACKGROUND:
Notice is hereby given by the University of Ottawa of the intent to enter a contract with Light Conversion-USA to procure High Energy Optical Parametric Chirped Pulse Amplifier (OPCPA) systems.

OPCPA [1]: Output Pulse Energies 14.5 mJ (24 mJ best effort) at 1 kHz.

Optical Parametric Chirped-Pulse Amplification (OPCPA) stages for a 1 kHz 200W 1030 nm pump laser
Repetition Rate: 1 kHz
Central Wavelength: 2000 +/- 250 nm
Compressed output pulse duration: <18 fs (best effort <14 fs) or for non-compliant seed, <1.3 x seed pulse duration
Minimum requirements as stated below

PROCESS:
Suppliers that consider their equipment functional, successfully tested and field-proven, readily available and fully compliant with the ACAN minimum requirements may submit, in writing, a statement of specifications to the contact person identified in this Notice, on or before the closing date of this Notice. In the statement of specifications, the supplier must unequivocally demonstrate how their equipment, at minimum, equals, or exceeds the stated requirements.

If no other supplier submits a statement of specifications, on or before the closing date of this Notice, the competitive requirements of the University of Ottawa will be considered having been met. Following notification to any suppliers not successful in unequivocally demonstrating that their statement of specifications equals or exceeds the requirements set out in this Notice, the contract may then be awarded to the pre-identified supplier.

INTENDED USE:
These High Energy OPCPA systems will be integrated with the existing pump lasers (installed at the University of Ottawa), a DIRA 200 (200 W at 1 kHz) and a DIRA 400 (500 W at 10 kHz) from TRUMPF Scientific Lasers GmbH, with the aim of producing stable, high energy ultrashort output laser pulses at a central wavelength of 2000 +/- 250 nm.

FUNCTIONALITY:
The equipment must conform to the following Minimum Requirements:

For reasons of technical compatibility, interchangeability of components and software control systems, and common service and training procedures, it is essential that both OPCPA systems be supplied by the same vendor (OEM).
The High Energy OPCPA systems must provide, at minimum, installed field systems with the unique High Energy performance requirements stated below.

Repetition Rate: 1 kHz
Central Wavelength: 2000 +/- 250 nm
Conversion efficiency (uncompressed): 7.5% (12% best effort) = Output pulse energies 14.5 mJ (24 mJ best effort)
Shot-to-Shot Energy Stability: <2.5 times the shot-to-shot stability of either seed or pump, whichever is worse, measured over 1h.
Compressor: Small-aperture diagnostic compressor included.
Compressed Output Pulse duration: <18 fs (best effort <14 fs) or for non-compliant seed, <1.3 x seed pulse duration
Average Power Stability: <2 times average power stability of either seed or pump, whichever is worse (measured with Coherent PM1k power meter, response time = 30 seconds), measured over 6h.
CEP stability: (standard deviation of measured CEP values) Site Acceptance Test to show <200 mrad + input CEP stability. To be added arithmetically (not in quadrature). Measurement time: 1h
Pointing Stability: <0.3 x beam divergence. Measurement time: 1h
M2 spatial mode quality: M2 (x) < 1.7 ; M2 (y) < 1.7
Beam astigmatism: <7%
Ellipticity: >0.7 (expected >0.8)
Polarization state Linear; polarization contrast >50:1
Warm-up Time: <1h following warm-up of Pump and Seed lasers

Conversion efficiency (uncompressed): For compressed pulse duration >20 fs: >9% (13% best effort). For compressed pulse duration <20 fs: >7.5% (13% best effort). Note that 7.5% (13% best effort) correspond to Output Pulse Energies 3.75 mJ (6.5 mJ best effort)
Shot-to-Shot Energy Stability: <2.5 times the shot-to-shot stability of either seed or pump, whichever is worse, measured over 1h.
Compressor: Small-aperture diagnostic compressor included.
Compressed Pulse duration: <1.3 x seed pulse duration or <45fs, whichever is higher. OPCPA optics will be optimized for target ~35fs pulse duration, or for <18fs pulse duration, if this ultrashort technology is proven.
Pulse Quality (time-bandwidth product): (1/e2 bandwidth) x (1/e2 duration) <1.7
Average Power Stability: <2 times average power stability of either seed or pump, whichever is worse (measured with Coherent PM1k power meter, response time = 30 seconds), measured over 6h.

Justification of Pre-Selected Supplier:
Supplier: Light Conversion-USA

Justification:

The University of Ottawa requires field-proven (i.e., installed and technically compliant) High Energy (not just high power) OPCPA performance. Here, High Energy means the vendor must have demonstrated in the field output energies per pulse of greater than 35 mJ at 1 kHz repetition rate, < 10 fs duration centred at 800 nm. This demonstrates that the vendor’s experience with High Energy OPCPA design and engineering matches or exceeds our requirements of output energies per pulse up to 25 mJ at 1 kHz repetition rate, centred at 2000 nm. Light Conversion is the only known supplier to have demonstrated in the field several installed High Energy OPCPA systems which are compatible with our requirements. Light Conversion is a key supplier of High Energy OPCPA systems to the ELI-ALPS (Extreme Light Infrastructure-Attosecond Light Pulse Source) https://www.eli-alps.hu/ . Light Conversion supplied to ELI-ALPS the High Energy SYLOS 2A system (https://www.eli-alps.hu/en/News/view/31 ), a High Energy OPCPA. We know no other examples of such High Energy installed (field-proven) OPCPA systems.

Of relevance here, we note that Light Conversion has currently in production for ELI-ALPS a 1 kHz OPCPA system with output energies per pulse >120 mJ. We know of no supplier, other than Light Conversion, capable of engineering such High Energy OPCPAs.
