Notice is hereby given by the University of Ottawa of the intent to enter into a contract with Jasco Inc and Oxford Instruments to purchase Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) equipment. To the best of the Universities knowledge, Jasco Inc and Oxford Instruments partnered are the only companies that can meet the Universities turnkey solution with the below mentioned instruments and meet all ACAN specifications listed below.
Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) equipment functions with a differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized light which is induced in a material by a strong applied magnetic field. The applied magnetic field is oriented parallel to the propagated light. An MCD spectrometer can detect transition, which are too weak to be seen in a traditional optical absorption spectra, in combination with the magnetic properties. As such, dynamic magnetic properties can be investigated on small molecules but also on materials of nanoscale dimensions. In addition, oxidation states, ground and excited states of metal ions can be probed. Applications include the study of metallo-proteins, semiconductors such as GaMnAs, characterization of nanoscale polycrystalline magnets, paramagnetic films and others. At the University of Ottawa, researchers are interested in studying electronic transition in molecular systems and probe their magnetic properties. Some the systems we intend to investigate are molecular Nano magnets (Single-Molecule Magnets); these systems require a MCD setup that and have large magnet (7T) and a cryogenic cooling system with its compressor to probe the electronic properties at very low temperatures (liquid helium temperatures)
This Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) equipment will be used for studying electronic transition in molecular systems and probe their magnetic properties. Some the systems we intend to investigate are molecular Nano magnets (Single-Molecule Magnets). The Key functional features include: Spectropolarimeter, 7T magnet, cryogenic cooling system.
The University of Ottawa is looking for a turnkey solution that meets or exceeds all the specifications requirements of this Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN).
Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) equipment will contain the following features: A) A Spectropolarimeter (CD and ABS measurements mode) with 160-2500 nm wavelength (UV, Visible, Near-IR) B) 7T magnet system with horizontal field split pair magnet C) cryogenic cooling system with its compressor (this instrument needs to reach temperature of 4 K or below for low temperature measurements) D) Magnetic CD interface system E) a computerized workstation that allows for programing/data collection and monitoring the experiments
