2018-40151-ACAN – Preventative Maintenance Services for the Living Wall located at 136 Jean Jacques Lussier on Campus.
 
PURPOSE
 
The purpose of this Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN) is to post the University of Ottawa’s (uOttawa) intention to enter into contractual arrangements with Nedlaw Living Walls Inc. to provide the services identified in the requirements noted below.
 
This ACAN provides prospective service providers the opportunity to demonstrate that they are capable of satisfying all requirements set out in this Advance Contract Award Notice by way of submitting a Statement of Capabilities on or before the posting end date.
 
SCOPE OF WORK FOR PROPOSED SERVICE PROVIDER
 
The Senior Director of Operations for the Universiy of Ottawa Facilities Services wishes to hire the services of Nedlaw Living Walls Inc. to provide preventative maintenance for the existing living wall in the Faculty of Social Sciences Building for a period of three years. The Living Wall is 85 feet high and requires a swingstage to perform monthly maintenance. There are more than 10,000 tropical plants with  a bare root soilless sytem, 24 hour per day metal halide lighting and water supply and it acts as an air filter with a mechanical ventilation system. All facets need to be thoroughly checked during each visit.
 
More specifically, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
 
The Provider shall perform the following services at the location of the Living Wall during each on-site visit:
 

1. Inspect plants for proper health;
2. Prune plants for plant health and appearance;
3. Replace plant material as required to maintain system;
4. Integrate new plant selections identified by research and development activities of the Provider;
5. Carry out required pest control on the plants in accordance with local regulations;
6. Inspect the entire Living Wall system, including pumps, water delivery, level controllers and drains, for proper functioning;
7. Clean plants and water features surfaces;
8. Inspect water quality in terms of pH and salinity;
9. Adjust pH and salinity, if required;
10. Inspect environmental control systems and associated computer equipment;
11. Inspect lighting system; and
12. Record maintenance activities in maintenance logbook.

• In-depth knowledge and proven experience in maintenance and replacement of plants in a living wall with the dimensions and complexity of the existing one in FSS.
• Resource availability to perform one site visit per month for 36 months to perform the activites above.
• The Services include plant material to maintain the Living Wall, provided plant loss is not caused by misuse of the Living Wall by the University
• the provider provides all tools and materials neessary for the activities including, but not limited to, the swingstage and all associated fall arrest equipment.
• Current WSIB clearance Certificate and $5M General Liability Insurance
