The University of Ottawa is seeking to prequalify General Contractors for a project to replace 6 existing cooling towers in the Power Plant with four new Evapco towers. A separate prequalification process is underway for qualified mechanical subcontractors. Firms will not be allowed to prequalify as both General Contractor and Mechanical Subcontractor. The work is to begin in September 2019 and be complete in June 2020. The work includes:
- Asbestos abatement removal on existing cooling towers 1 to 6;
- Demolition and removal of the existing cooling towers 1 to 6 and associated components;
- Structural work related to the new cooling towers 1 to 4, including pier repairs, pier supports, adding additional supports to existing cooling towers, new cooling tower structural framing, new cooling tower catwalks, stairs, & interconnections to other existing cooling towers;
- Mechanical work (including modifications to the condenser water and make-up water piping, etc., new controls valves and associated controls to tie to existing automation system) related to the installation of the new cooling towers 1 to 4; the new cooling towers 1 to 4 that will replace the existing cooling towers 1 to 6 already have been pre-selected; prequalification of mechanical contractors for this project is currently in process (via separate RFSQ);
- Electrical work (including main electrical feed, etc.) and associated work related to the installation of the new cooling tower 1 to 4.
- Architectural work, including removal of existing knee wall and flashing at parapet for roof removal, new lower knee wall & parapet modification for new roofing, roof scupper & overflow modifications at parapet, new wall flashing at existing wall.
- Replacement of roofing system of the entire power plant roof;
- and any other work required to complete this Project.
Proposals are due before 3:00:00 on July 3, 2019.
The University intends to award one (1) CCDC2, 2008 Stipulated Price Contract for the two fit-ups. The contract documents will include the provisions of this RFSQ and the University of Ottawa’s Supplementary Conditions to the CCDC2, 2008
