PURPOSE
The purpose of this Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN) is to announce the University of Ottawa’s (uOttawa) intention to enter into contractual arrangements with Peacock Philanthropic Counsel Inc to provide the services identified in the requirements below.
This ACAN provides prospective service providers the opportunity to demonstrate that they are capable of satisfying all requirements set out in this Advance Contract Award Notice by way of submitting a Statement of Capabilities on or before the posting end date.
SCOPE OF WORK FOR PROPOSED SERVICE PROVIDER
The Development Office at External Relations, University of Ottawa, requires Senior Advisor, Regional Development (Toronto). In particular the service provider will:
Be responsible for creating, implementing and evaluating a new and comprehensive proactive development plan that is regionally based within the city of Toronto (Ontario) with the primary purpose of establishing long-term partnerships and strengthening existing relationships with corporations, foundations and individuals within Toronto, resulting in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of the University of Ottawa. Create and strengthen new and existing external relationships with a variety of constituencies within Toronto, including high-profile prospects with major gift potential, as well as senior officials and volunteers, to identify linkage, ability and interest (LAI) of these stakeholders. Provides expertise
to advance the University of Ottawa’s interests while acting as the University’s sole representative in the area.
NOTE: Due to the long-distance nature of this position, the incumbent will not have direct ongoing support in performing his or her development efforts within Toronto. Therefore, the incumbent must be very knowledgeable of fundraising principles and possess a high level of autonomy in accomplishing goals and objectives in the fundraising environment.
REQUIREMENTS
The resource assigned to this mandate from the service provider requires at a minimum:
Skills and Expertise:
- Must have a Master’s degree in philanthropy or a related discipline in higher education (or a comparable complex organization);
- Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of professional fundraising or related experience;
- Superior knowledge of fundraising principles and practices and current industry trends of the city of Toronto;
- Must have managed major fundraising programs with a minimum goal of $400 million in similar size Higher Education Institutions;
- Must have established connections with organisations that have a strong history of philanthropy in the Toronto area;
- Incumbent must be self-directed and possess a high level of independence in accomplishing the development responsibilities;
- Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with minimum supervision;
- Must have proven record of success in generating significant commitments from corporations, foundations and individuals;
- Strong ability in proposal writing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development;
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals are essential;
- Proven negotiating skills and demonstrated leadership skills;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Experience using fundraising databases, such as Raiser’s Edge;
- Must have a CFRE accreditation.
