The Unversity of Ottawa is pleased to invite qualified proponents to submit a proposal for a dynamic body scanner. Dynamic body scanners are modular photogrammetry-based capture and analysis systems that allow us to track human movement, measure joint angles, generate digital human models, and track pieces of clothing and/or objects being handled or close to a human body. When combined with force plates, the high-accuracy kinematics provided by these systems can be used to estimate muscle and joint contact forces during various activities performed during daily living tasks, such as walking, running, jumping, carrying, standing, and lifting. The ability to process a dynamic 3D scan of the human body is essential to obtain accurate metrics and complete models to perform virtual simulations of human movement in dynamic environments. The automatic processing of markerless human 3D scans in non-standard poses is a key value in biomechanics research.
General Description:
The dynamic body scanner must identify markerless landmarks with a 3D accuracy of < 1 mm and provide 3D visualization of the human body in motion. It must automatically extract dynamic measurements of perimeters and body shapes, allowing sophisticated models for kinematic characterization of segments, joints, and muscle volume. Synchronization with our force plates and instrumented treadmill systems, as well as being able to export the data to biomechanical standards, is required. The system will be used to measure variables during various activities (e.g., load magnitude/shape, assistive device use, dual-task, etc.) for different populations (e.g., youth, young and elderly adults, people with neurological impairments, and injured people).
Mandatory Requirements:
1. Dynamic Body Scanner
1.1 The system must have a scanning volume of at least 2m x 2m x 2m
1.2 The system must be capable of automatic kinematic measurement, point identification, and frame-to-frame point tracking
1.3 The system must have a calibration system with accuracy of at least 1 mm
1.4 The system must have a recording frequency of at least 100 fps
1.5 The system must be capable of connecting and synchronizing to other biomechanical equipment (e.g., motion capture: Qualisys system, force platforms: AMTI system)
1.6 The system must scan in colour
1.7 The system must allow for the capture of clothing/objects
1.8 The system must include the mounting and truss aparatus for supporting the sensors and supply eqquipment.
2. Software and Computing Equipment
2.1 The measurement software must automatically recognize anatomical landmarks, input virtual markers, and track them over time.
2.2 The measurement software must automatically pre-define body segments and allow joint angles output.
2.3 The measurement software must allow data export to any one of the following common biomechanics formats (e.g., c3d, trc, or csv files).
2.4 The processing software must allow 3D file export in any one of the common conventional formats with texture support (e.g., obj, fbx, stl files)
2.5 The processing software must have at least 2 licenses to process data on more than one computer.
2.6 Must include the necessary scanning hardware and computers to run the system and software
3. Warranty, CSA, Installation and Training
3.1 Must include a minimum of one (1) year of warranty.
3.2 Product(s) must arrive CSA compliant or equivalent.
3.3 Shipping, delivery, installation, initial calibration, testing, and on-site training must be included.
