BACKGROUND:
Notice is hereby given by the University of Ottawa of the intent to enter into a contract with ICEoxford to procure a cryogen free top loading variable temperature system with integrated magnet from ICEoxford.
PROCESS:
Suppliers that consider their equipment functional, successfully tested, readily available and fully compliant to the ACAN minimum requirements may submit, in writing, a statement of specifications to the contact person identified in this Notice, on or before the closing date of this Notice. In the statement of specifications, the supplier must unequivocally demonstrate how their equipment, at minimum, equals, or exceeds the stated requirements.
If no other supplier submits a statement of specifications, on or before the closing date of this Notice, the competitive requirements of the University of Ottawa will be considered as having been met. Following notification to any suppliers not successful in unequivocally demonstrating that their statement of specifications equals or exceeds the requirements set out in this Notice, the contract may then be awarded to the pre-identified supplier.
INTENDED USE:
The ICEoxford system will be used to perform characterisation experiments of novel 2D materials devices for quantum sensing applications. The materials will be grown at uOttawa and device fabrication will be done partly at uOttawa and partly at the National Research Council Canada. Experiments will be carried out as a function of temperature between 300K and 1.5K. Successful devices would then be used to perform experiments at temperatures around 10mK.
FUNCTIONALITY:
The equipment must conform to the following Minimum Requirements:
- Cryogen-Free Top Loading System with temperature range 1.5K – 300K
- 8T Magnet with 70mm sample space
- 48 way (2 x 24 way) DC Loom (in Twisted Pairs)
- 4 microwave coaxes with SMK connectors
- Blank feedthroughs with KF16 flange
- Option to use a dilution refrigerator insert for lower temperature experiments down to 10mK

Justification:
The ICEoxford DRY ICE 1.5K 70mm Cryostat is the only cryostat on the market that can meet the minimum requirements that are essential for achieving the research objectives, in particular, the ability to perform experiments at the 1.5K-300K temperature ranges, as well as down to 10mK during future planned experimental phases, using a dilution refrigerator insert (ICE 10mK Cold Probe) with the existing system as part of a future upgrade. Additionally, the ICEoxford system has the ample (70mm) sample space required to house existing data acquisition electronics which are compatible to other cryogenic systems in our labs.
