Description

Notice is hereby given by the University of Ottawa of the intent to purchase from AIXTRON a customized Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) system to grow 2D materials including hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN); tungsten diselenide (WSe2); molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2); tungsten disulfide (WS2); molybdenum disulfide (MoS2); and graphene.

The overarching goal is to study the optoelectronic and transport properties of these 2D materials as single layers and when combined to form so-called van der Waals heterostructures.

The uniformity and purity of crystals will be monitored in-situ during growth by optical means. After growth the materials will be analyzed with optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. Specific optoelectronic properties will be investigated by spectroscopy techniques includes low temperature confocal micro-photoluminescence, pump-probe spectroscopy, cavity ring-down spectroscopy, and laser Raman spectroscopy.

The infrastructure will be located in the Science - Technology - Engineering - Mathematics (STEM) Complex at the University of Ottawa. This infrastructure development builds upon prior investments by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
