Description

Ryerson is in need of a Dynamic Gastric Model Unit that simulates both the biochemical and mechanical aspects of digestion in a realistic time-dependent manner. Its gastric phase allows for a complete characterization of diffusion profiles of gastric acid emptying and simulates peristaltic action causing digesta to undergo high shear and mechanical breakdown. The second stage mimics the human small intestine where digesta empties from the stomach and is subjected to simulated intestinal secretions. A dedicated network server and one computer workstation are required to operate the specialized software.
