This project is intended to renovate major elements of the original (1975 construction) main campus building. The principle outcomes of this project are to repurpose the vacated library space (including adding a second storey in most of that space), to refresh the existing Main Street corridor, to create an intersecting “Avenue” to Main Street, to activate the exterior spaces, and to create a student center in this newly revitalized space.
The proposed renovation to the G-Wing and adjacent spaces will include a build out and repurposing of the vacated former library space on main campus, renovations to some adjacent spaces, the creation of a student centre, the refresh of the existing main corridor (Main Street), the creation of a new intersecting “avenue”, and the addition of an elevator.
The scope will include a second storey “mezzanine” infill that will create an additional 1,650 square metres to the old library space. This new floor space will coincide with approximately 100 linear metres of new exterior glazing to replace existing precast panels. Additional teaching spaces, labs, research and administration spaces will comprise the renovated areas. Some business units are expected to be consolidated and others moved into these new spaces. The total estimated area that is expected to be affected is roughly 16,800 square metres.
The construction budget is estimated to be approximately $45 million.
