2024-034A-01 - Composting and Burial of Pigs and Poultry

Investigation 1 Evaluate on-farm composting of mass egg layer hen mortalities outdoors as (i) a management practice for end of lay birds and (ii) disposal of mass layer mortalities following the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) protocol for the control of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) under Manitoba climate conditions.   Investigation 2 Evaluate trench composting of pig mortalities at the Prairie Green Landfill in Manitoba.    Investigation 3 Conduct a preliminary assessment of a Crown Land parcel in the Parkland region for mass mortalities disposal. The successful Proponent must begin with Investigation 1. If Investigation 1 cannot be completed due to an HPAI outbreak, the Proponent must move to Investigation 2 or 3, should the budget allow. The successful Proponent should be prepared to stay within the budget allowance. All work relating to the investigations and any additional services or amendments under the contract shall be completed for $75,000 CAD.
