In Lanark County, the responsibility to provide fire protection is with the local municipality. Lanark County provides communications services for each of the eight Lanark County fire departments under one agreement. This service is currently provided by the Town of Smiths Falls fire department, with the current contract set to expire on June 30, 2022. The Fire Dispatch Centre has the responsibility of providing emergency dispatch and communications for all Lanark County fire services/departments through a series of towers which has the capability of paging every local fire department on an emergency fire service frequency (analog) and alerts the closest responding fire station. When necessary, notification can be sent to a neighboring fire station, in a predetermined format, when mutual aid is required to provide additional resources of manpower and/or fire apparatus.
The Municipalities of Smiths Falls, Lanark Highlands, Mississippi Mills, Carleton Place, Perth, Beckwith, Montague and Drummond North Elmsley/Tay Valley (hereafter referred to as “the Member Municipalities”) are seeking a qualified and experienced Proponent to provide a Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) ready Communications System, that will be used to process, answer and dispatch 911 calls requiring fire services within Lanark County.
