Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation, acting on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen as represented by the Ministry of Infrastructure (MOI). IO provides customer-focused services to the Ontario government, including providing loans to the broader public sector, strategic portfolio management, asset management, property and land management, sales and acquisitions, and delivery of capital projects. IO manages, protects, and enhances the value of public sector real estate.
Infrastructure Ontario along with a consulting firm completed a Lab Optimization Study in 2016 whose objective were to identify opportunities to:
- Improve and modernize laboratory facility conditions;
- Enhance the efficiency of the laboratory portfolio footprint and operations, with a specific effort to reduce emissions and help combat climate change; and
- Generate synergies between Ministries/Agencies which utilize lab assets.
The outcomes of the study included:
- A recommendation for appropriate metrics for analyzing the utilization of lab facilities;
- Understanding of the current state of the Ontario laboratory portfolio (baseline) including current and future program needs;
- Understanding of industry trends and service delivery options; and
- Identification of a number of facility optimization opportunities including an impact assessment model for each opportunity
A multi-disciplinary firm is now sought to move this work forward and to support implementation of recommendations and opportunities as well as to update the baseline information already captured.
