IO has long understood the importance of high-quality data but does not have an enterprise approach to managing data. Over the years IO has launched several data improvement initiatives. These initiatives were localized within individual departments, limiting benefits to the business unit initiating the effort. Data is often siloed with limited ability to coordinate outcomes, reuse workable methods, and prioritize what data is important. This inhibits our ability to leverage data as an asset to improve management of business operations, develop insight and react agilely to a changing business landscape. IO continuously requires enrichment of information to enhance operations management and support decision making but the inefficiencies and lack of effectiveness of existing processes are barriers to success.
