19-016 - GRH Lab Middleware

Grand River Hospital (GRH) currently uses laboratory instrument middleware that has been in use by GRH for approximately 20 years, and is a vital piece of integrating, managing and operating various instruments and analyzers within the laboratory environment.  Included in the functionality of the middleware is the ability to create custom rules for the operation and monitoring of instruments and analyzers, and the ability to create custom quality control processes and activities to support proper laboratory operation.
 
The current environment and related software licensing is bundled with the existing Allscripts / McKesson Horizon Lab (HLAB) laboratory information system (LIS) in operation at GRH and cannot be decoupled from the HLAB bundle.  Support for the current environment is provided by Allscripts and is limited to integration with HLAB.  GRH is in process of migrating the LIS from Allscripts to Cerner.  Because the middleware licensing is tied to the Allscripts/McKesson LIS, the current middleware environment cannot be retained as a stand-alone application.  GRH requires a stand-alone laboratory middleware application to provide continued management and operation of the existing instrument and analyzer footprint and integration of the lab instrument configuration with Cerner.
