2018-08 - Healthy Eating Vending Equipment and Services

This Request for Proposals is issued by Cornwall Community Hospital for the purpose of obtaining Proposals for vending equipment and services for the 840 McConnell Avenue site for a term of 3 years with option to renew for 1 + 1 years.  
The Champlain Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Network (CCPN)
The CCPN is an innovative, multi-sectoral partnership housed at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and comprising partners from public health, specialty and primary care, hospitals, and academia all working together to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in the Champlain region of Eastern Ontario (Ottawa and surrounding area).
 
Healthy Foods in Hospitals (Healthy Foods) is a CCPN priority program. The CCPN provides centralized project management and coordination support for the Healthy Foods program. A Leadership Task Force of hospital executives provides strategic oversight to the program. All 20 hospitals in the Champlain region are actively participating in the program.
 
The Program
 

1. The vision of the Healthy Foods program is to create supportive, healthy nutrition environments in Champlain hospitals so that the ‘healthy choice is the easy choice’ for staff, physicians, visitors, patients, and volunteers.

1. The emphasis of the Healthy Foods program is retail food settings; this includes cafeteria, vending, volunteer, and franchise operations.

1. A set of nutrition criteria (standards) was developed in consultation with hospital and public health dietitians from across the Champlain region. The goals of these criteria are to increase healthy food and beverage offerings, decrease less healthy offerings, and provide nutrition information at point-of-purchase. The standards are reviewed annually to ensure they remain current with best available evidence.
